“Kimi-no-Ashita”(Your Tomorrow) – The behind the scenes
While this song is proudly our very first release, the path leading up to it was actually a huge struggle.
We had a few different candidate songs and had started production on the one we both agreed on. However, no matter how much time we spent, the quality was nowhere near where we wanted it to be. Looking back, it might have just been too difficult for us since we were complete beginners as Vocaloid producers. Even now, three years later (as of September 2026), that song still hasn’t seen the light of day. We both feel it’s too good to just leave on the shelf, so we definitely hope to release it someday.
Because we hit a wall, we went back to square one. We decided to try making something catchy with a pop melody, and that’s when the rough draft for both the music and lyrics came together in just about a day—which became this song, “Kimi no Ashita” (Your Tomorrow).
Still, everything was completely new to us, and we were totally lost. Even though mirun had been using DAWs for a long time, the experience was too biased, leaving them completely lacking in mixing and mastering knowledge. Tappo (mirun’s pen name as a video creator) tried to challenge themselves by making a full-animation MV using Final Cut Pro, despite having barely touched video editing software before (later switching to After Effects). Meanwhile, merun was struggling hard with Procreate on an iPad, an illustration app they had never used before (later switching to CLIP STUDIO PAINT).
Back then, AI wasn’t as widely known as it is today. So, we spent our days hunting for information all over the internet, and somehow, we managed to pull together something that finally looked like a proper music video.
