“We’re Your Angels” – The behind the scenes

This song has unfortunately become a “dark past” (black history) for mirumerun, leaving behind a deep sense of regret. This was the very first song we submitted to the Magical Mirai contest, and it was also our first track featuring Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin, and Len together as the main vocalists. However, at the time of the contest, mirun lacked the skills to mix three Vocaloids simultaneously while maintaining a good balance. Struggling until the final moments before the deadline, they even forgot to raise the overall volume (sound pressure level) at the very end. Submitting that quiet file at the absolute last minute was a major blunder that only added to the embarrassment. After the Magical Mirai contest ended, we had no choice but to delete that terribly flawed submission from the site. Now, to coincide with the release of this remade version, we have re-uploaded the track to Piapro. However, as anyone who listens will notice, the mix on this released version is still not ideal.

You might wonder why we pushed through with this release anyway. Since this was a song we had previously uploaded to Piapro—even though it was never published on YouTube—we decided it wasn’t right to leave it in limbo for so long after deleting it from its only public platform. Regarding this track, merun has said, “It has become a prime example of mirumerun’s worst work.” Unfortunately, that is completely true.

Analyzing this song again brings many issues to light. The list of flaws is endless, but here are a few key points:

• Too many tracks were needlessly layered. Simply stacking tracks does not automatically make the sound thicker or richer.
• Spatial effects (reverb/delay) were left active throughout the tracks. Since some of these effects remained in the low-frequency range, it made the overall sound even more muddy and unclear.
• Looking back at the project file for this remake, it had over 130 tracks.
• We never intended to make an EDM track. Our goal was a trance-style sound, but it ended up leaning toward EDM instead. As a result, the track feels like it completely lacks low-end bass.

Looking back now, fixing just the points mentioned above would have made a huge difference. However, this project file has become heavily bugged. We ultimately decided it wasn’t worth spending more time debugging the file just for this one song. (We were facing a glitch where fixing one part would cause data elsewhere to be automatically overwritten or deleted.)

In any case, this track ended up leaving us with a feeling of unfinished business.

But the truth is…

Out of all the songs mirun has created, this is actually one of their favorites. Because of that, they deeply regret that their lack of technical skill ruined the track, and they strongly hope to release an alternative version in the future, similar to what we did with SHINING STAR.
